All of the surfaces are completely smooth an painted with a nice silver finish. The sleek round knob on the front adjusts the internal ceramic core temperature which is then promptly displayed on a small red LCD screen right above it.

I want to take a moment to really emphasize how much nicer it is to have an actual temperature displayed on a box vaporizer, many friends of mine have purchased inferior units from head shops or ebay only to have constant trouble with finding that perfect temperature eventually resulting to frustration and eventually total abandonment of the vaporizer.

Using the vaporizer was really a breeze, as always you want to make sure your cannabis or alternative herb is finely ground as this is very important to the vaporizing process. I have found the best success with my single chamber spacecase grinder but multiple level grinders will work, sometimes I will just run the herb through the top stage twice because it really does effect efficiency. The glass whipped bowl is easy to access and allows for nice and even dispersion of the cannabis across the metal screen. The glass and ceramic heating core glows red while the unit is on and looks rather cool.

The Extreme Q Vaporizer came out in early 2008 and is manufactured by the Canadian company Arizer who also happens to make the V-Tower model. The Extreme Q is one of the few 3 function units with a digital temp LCD control that uses forced air, direct inhalation, and also a balloon fill type system. Needless to say, the Extreme Q Vaporizer Review was a fun one.

There is a almost silent 3 speed air fan that uses forced air to produce just the right mix of both air and heating with each draw. This is accompanied by the ceramic heating element. The filling chamber (made of pyrex) and the glass adapters for whip as well as balloon kits do well to standing up to the elements and constant daily use.

As we stated above, this unit has a LCD control panel that is very cool and helpful. The main thing that is cool about is the amount of information that it provides-

The Extreme Q has a total of three methods for delivery and all of them can be swapped out depending on your personal preference-

1) The balloon system is used by attaching a glass adapter and the balloon kit toe the bowl. We found that putting the fan on the highest setting is the best way to go as it produces the most dense vapor layer.

2) Forced air is accomplished using the swivel ground glass whip function which is then combined with a 3 speed silent fan. We found the best level is accomplished by using the fan on the low to medium setting.

3) The final way is to use it as a direct inhalation. You use the medical tubing attached to the base and the swivel which allows proper movement.

The Extreme Q even comes with a a remote. This is probably one of the most necessary accessories I’ve seen on a Vaporizer but hey, if it comes with it, why not. You are able to control all of the primary functions of the Vaporizer with it.

The average heat up time is around 2-3 minutes and temp can range from 100-400 degrees. It takes about 4 minutes for it to cool down.

Another quality aspect of this vaporizer is the fact that it comes with a lifetime warranty, though this is restricted to normal use. If a problem comes along that doesn’t fall under the warranty, you can purchase any of the replacement parts for a fee.

Overall, we were very pleased with this unit. In terms of price it ranks up towards the top. To continue our car metaphor, this unit falls in the BMW range in terms of price and quality. We think that this is a perfect higher end vaporizer for those who cant or don’t want to afford the Volcano Vaporizer. It really comes down to the quality of construction with these vaporizers. If you don’t have solid construction and solid parts, you aren’t going to get as efficient of a vapor and that sort of defeats the purpose. The Extreme Q covers this quite well and gets our seal of approval for an at home vaporizer

The breakdown of the iolite vaporizer is fairly simple as seen on the diagram above. The filling valve for butane is located conveniently on the top of the device and requires no skill or prior knowledge to refill.

Unfortunately due to shipping restrictions the iolate does not include butane but it is widely available at a variety of stores for less than $5.

Using the device was a breeze, after filling it with butane I slid the herb chamber open and packed in some finely ground cannabis. (Speaking of butane, when getting refills down the line, please remember to use a high quality butane with any vaporizer. This is very important!)

As with the Iolite, the WISPR boasts a long continuous vaporization time. The manufacturer claims that because of their charge, you can use the WISPR continuously for up to three hours. Pretty good.

We found that the unit has a very quick start up time, and we also liked how lightweight it is. Also, unlike the Iolite, the WISPR can almost be passed off as a wallet or some sort of storage device. The Iolite might draw more — shall we say — unwanted attention because of its look.

In terms of quality, we found that the WISPR does indeed seem to produce a bit higher quality vapor as compared with the Iolite. Is it enough of a difference to warrant the higher price? We say “YES” with this footnote: If money is really, really tight for you, buying the Iolite remains an OK choice. Both are very solid units from a reliable company. Either will suit the needs of anyone looking for a small, portable, high quality vaporizer. That being said, this WISPR unit is just a step up. It is awesome and I personally use this as my portable vaporizer of choice.

The WISPR is a butane-powered portable vaporizer, manufactured by the Irish company Oglesby & Butler. It is the successor to one of the hottest selling portable vaporizers available, the iolite ORIGINAL portable vaporizer.

Besides a brand new design, the WISPR features a foldable, flexible mouthpiece (stem), a larger butane tank and a fuel level window. The built-in thermostat is set to maintain a (non-adjustable) temperature of 374°F (190°C).

Although the WISPR uses the Iolite’s flameless gas catalytic conversion heating method and thermo controls, it’s received a host of upgrades. I really like the look and shape of the WISPR, with colors such as Espresso, Grape, Oyster, Pumpkin, and Pistachio. At only 3.5 inches in height and length, the WISPR is super portable and can easily be dropped in your pocket. If you’re active, or enjoy the outdoors, the WISPR is an absolutely perfect companion.

A Look at the WISPR’s New Features

Richer Vapor Delivery

While I was always happy with the Iolite’s vapor, some did complain about the lightless of it. The WISPR now produces a noticable change in vapor denseness.

New Fuel Gauge Window

I am glad they added this to the WISPR. When you stand the unit upright, you’re able to get a visual on the fuel levels. This is also handy when filling the WISPR with butane.

Longer Run Time

One of the new features I was impressed with, was the longer run time. They’ve increased the butane burning efficiency to allow 3 hours between fills.

Better Heat Handling

The WISPR does an excellent job at venting heat. The unit does not get nearly as warm as the Iolite.
Fast Warm Up Time

Only 2 minutes are all that’s needed to vaporizing with the WISPR. When the orange light is out, its time to vaporize!

New Popout Mouthpiece
The new flexible mouthpiece is great. It pop’s out from the side of the WISPR and is long enough to help reduce heat.
Easy to Fill Chamber
The new, longer filling chamber on the WISPR makes it much easier to fill with herbs.
Quiet Vaporization
It’s obvious why this portable vaporizer was called the WISPR. I was very surprised how quiet the WISPR is compared to the Iolite! Now its even more stealthy!

How To Use The Magic Flight Launch Box

While the unit comes with attachments (and the LB is said to accept the Purple Days stem as well) most users prefer to use the device native (i.e. no attachment).

1. Charge the AA NiMH battery (batteries and charger included).
2. Fill the trench with dry, ground material (the drier the herb and the finer the grind the better) but don’t tamp it down.
3. Push the battery all of the way in and begin drawing fairly slowly after about 3 seconds.
4. Draw on the Box for 10 to 20 seconds and then remove the battery. Don’t forget this. Ever. You will ruin the trenchful of herb and cross over from vaporizing to smoking. (Note: new models come equipped with a push-back ring for the battery, so that the battery will lose contact when pressure is released. This ring can be removed if so desired.)
5. Shake the Box or stir the trench between hits.
6. Connoisseurs always use a fresh battery. However, if you want to squeeze more juice out of a weakened battery (i.e. any battery that has been used once, per Magic-flight) and feel like a smaller trench anyway, you can safely under-fill the trench as well.
