I've only tried the Mini Digit vaporizer before and I haven't really liked it, for many reasons that I won't list. I'd seen an Iolite demo a few months ago and I liked it's gadget-y look. It's about the size of a smart phone and looks a bit like one.

I was a bit skeptical when it arrived just because my last vape experience wasn't so great. I read the included manuals and a few online tips. I'd already read reviews and had bought an extended mouthpiece kit to cool it. I used Vector butane to fill it with. The first go-round startled me. I didn't expect the "gentle hiss" to be quite so loud. Fortunately it doesn't stay on long when it does come on.

The first go was much better than the other vape but still not quite what I'd read in reviews so I looked at a few more websites and learned how to get the most out of the Iolite. For me, using a plastic grinder works better than an aluminum one. The herbs I use have no stems or seeds or anything to fuss with so I can powder it up and tap it out and pinch it directly into the loading chamber. I let the Iolite heat up for about 2 minutes before using it. This seems to help pre-heat the powder so the first sip is the same as the 8th.

I was a bit leery of the cost-to-size ratio of the thing but after using it a bit, I love it. Worth the money for sure. It's kind of neat to see a product that's made in Ireland too. Is that Gaelic on the side? Anyway, I thought the rubbery grip was a bit sticky initially but after using it, I've found the slight tackiness beneficial as it keeps it steady in your hand while you're holding and using it.

All in all I'm very satisfied with my purchase. I just wish I'd bought one sooner.

I bought the original iinhale which was the first version of the iolite back in January 2008. I used it every day for the first 3 years then had a bit of a break. I pulled it out of the bag the other day, filled it up and it fired up 1st time and still works a treat, like it did on day 1 almost 4 years ago. If these newer versions are half as good as the original then your onto a winner. I have used it in clubs and pubs disguised behind my beer bottle and passed it round mates with bouncers walking round and never been cought. I have used various vapes and the iinhale (iolite) is by far the best of the best.

i just got an iolite a few weeks ago based on a friend's recommendation and a grain of salt as to if it would live up to his hype. I am such a skeptic and its such a surprise to find a product that blow my expectations out of the water. I think it is rare to find a product that i can endorse whole heatedly like this little vaporizer. I am talking about a life changer and i really want everybody to know about it (who's all hype now). one thing that speaks for itself about this product is the fact that i cant seem to find any legitimate bad reviews anywhere.

My friend has his magical flight box, and the same week I was given a Iolit. Having used both I must say the Iolite is a better experence, The hiss of the iolite lets you know it still has gas where as the MFLB may be out of power for 10 mins before we notice. and If the charger is not around the good old fashion methods will have to do. (major buzz kill sometimes). =)

I'm not using it at high altitude, but have heard from others that it can be an issue. Make sure you use the highest quality butane ( Vector )

I have had mine for 2 or so weeks. The biggest challenge has been to figure out many puffs (or sessions) I get for each filled chamber, and when I have to refill fuel. But through trial and error, I have it figured out for my capacity and the plant material I currently have. I also find that after one session, the plant mat'l sticks even with the moisture thingie in. I poke it to loosen it so the screen isn't clogged and have another go. Maybe it'd be ok without that...have to test it. I was wondering if I needed to dry my plant mat'l in the oven after grinding. As I said, lotsa testing. Mine continually cycles (orange light on, strong hiss from fuel) when on, which is fine at home where I usually am, but could be problematic if I was really trying to be low key. I have a couple of pulls after I turn it off as it still cycles a couple of times. Overall, it's a cunning little gadget and I love it...no burning on my throat, no cotton mouth, no smell on me or my surroundings.

Mine just arrived from VaporShop, It appears to be the newer model too - with the metal threaded mouthpiece. Worked great the first time, but it is going to take a while to figure out how much to put in and how long to puff before the product is spent. I'm also unclear how to clean it. I see the tool and see the screen - but afraid to just push the tool through it. As others mentioned, the unit hisses for a few minutes after turning it off. This could be a problem if about to get caught, as the hiss is noisy enough for others to hear. The good thing about the hiss during operation is that it reminds you if you forgot to turn it off. Also as previously mentioned, parts of the unit get hot and while you won't be seriously burned, there are places you won't want your hand to be while it is burning the gas. I look forward to learning how to use it better :-)

The iolite is an incredibly great vaporizer, but be aware that there is a 2 year factory warranty which is only good when purchased from authorized dealers

The factory requires authorized dealers to sell the iolite for no less than $199. Usually authorized dealers bundle grinders, butane, etc to make up for the extra cost.

I think having the 2 year warranty is worth buying from an authorized dealer.

As a girl who hates smoking, this little product is everything I have been waiting for. If I'd known of it previously, I would have bought it already. This is high-tech and it's excellent for travel & use on a boat. It's easy to use and at the perfect temperature with a very adequate herb chamber for something this small. The most fun thing is you can get your favorite color - or to match your car!

Just finished a 7,000 mile road trip that was a full month, visiting national parks etc.). Perfect for campgrounds since it looks like a little walkie talkie, very discreet, use it anywhere.

Instructions could be better,

leave it on for awhile so it can heat up completely you don’t have to wait for it to relight, it doesn’t need to be “burning” while using.

There is some smell that clears quickly if used in an enclosed room, but outdoors no problem.

I tried to fill the wrong part of the “bowl”, tried to fill around pin side instead of the correct side of chamber the first couple times. (it would be nice to have an easier way to fill the bowl, still figuring that out. I guess if your herb was in a baggie instead of a plastic container you could just stick it in and fill it up)

When you turn it off, it will relight a couple times, I thought mine was broken when it relit while turned off.

Clean regularly or it is very hard to unscrew bottom mouthpiece from bowl.

I just cut a short piece of tubing for the mouthpiece and it works great, (just cut a new piece when needed)

A few minor irritations at first but I do love it.

Buy your butane refill before it arrives (it is empty during shipping and you are going to want to try it out as soon as it arrives)

It is the only thing I use for herb, no more smoking, coughing, smell, etc.

This is the one you want if you need portability, don’t even bother with the ones that use a lighter.

This is the greatest thing I have ever bought. Can be used inside without almost any herbal smell! Takes about 2 min to get warm to work well, not 90 seconds. Well made and small. Worth every penny! Lights very easily, usually on the first push. Even better than I had hoped! Here's a little tip. If you also enjoy eating your various herbal remedies save your used herbs/tobacco, simmer them in hot oil for about 30 min to extract the beneficial elements from the left over herbs. This oil can be used to make brownies or a cake! Just remember that you'll need 4 times as much as you normally would.

I've had my iolite for a few months now, and it still works like the day I bought it. The important thing is to keep it clean -- take it completely apart and put the pieces in a bag with rubbing alcohol and salt. Shake in the bag and then rinse thoroughly before reassembling. If you clean it on a regular basis and use premium butane like Vector, you'll have no problems with this great little vape. The portability factor is awesome, and the unit very discreet.

If you clean it on a regular basis and use premium butane like Vector, you’ll have no problems with this great little vape. The portability factor is awesome, and the unit very discreet.

This unit's a peach. The price is fair and it comes with all the extras so it's a really good deal.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned - you'll want to measure the amount vs. high by the bowl, not by the number of inhalations. You'll puff around 15 times for a full lightly packed bowl's worth compared to 2-3 tokes. This way is SO much better for your lungs, it's the only option if you care about breathing.

Have just bought iolite and have never used a vapouriser before.
I'm a bit confused on how much to put in chamber and also not sure how to tell when the herb should be replaced in chamber. I really love the iolite vaporizer so far!

i love my Iolite vaporiser, but sometimes have problems liting it. also, sometimes when i fill it, i don't really hear the gas going in, does anyone else have that problem??
as to how much to put it, I usually fill the chamber, i pack it very lightly and put in just a little bit more. thats usually good enough for about 45 minutes.

Not sure how to tell when we have made full use of all of the usefulness of the product. It seems that the products effectiveness seems to last for many, many draws even with less than half of the chamber being filled.

I am fairly new to vaporizer use and had the box w/the tube and the glass thing. I've been a basic water pipe girl for most of my life. I only recently began using herbs for fibromyalgia relief and was looking for a more convenient and less damaging way to treat my pain without coughing or a big production. Sadly, contrary to being in college 20 years ago, I have really come to rely on high-quality medical product and want to simply take medicine and get back to work or the task at hand. This.does an excellent job of allowing you to enjoy the qualities the various strains have, as you would tobaccoes of any kind, without associated coughing, water or lighters, rolling anything...it is amazing of you actually need this to function. I gladly defer.to those who know about cleaning etcetera. I actually was looking for use advice myself when I hapened upon this site. I don't use mine for more than a few ,inutes at a time, and I am not sure how mych material to use, "for one", because it does seem that if you fill the chamber up a little or a lot, it all gets vaporized at the same time. Not sure what to do about that as it is hard to know how much to put in. hope you know what I mean.

ANYONE WHO HAS THIS UNIT-
I have a little box vaporizer and the whip reeks like herb because of multiple usage. Does the iolite have the same problem? I need a unit that can be hidden from roomates that don't approve.. And possibly to use before transformers 3d without smelling like herb.

I love it, love it, love it. Only way I take my herbs. No more combustion at all, I
take it camping and nobody notices. Will take it with me every time. SoCal beaches this summer should be the best beach trips ever. Did I mention, I love it.

I use a superthick wrist-sized rubber band lengthwise to hold the bowl in place. Also, you can put it in one of those drink boxes (that come with the straws), after you've emptied and cleaned it, and cut slots for ventilation and the on-off and ignition switches. It looks like you are drinking choc milk or juice when you are actually vaping. I've biked around downtown with it in plain view of all.

@AddDoe: The Magic Flight Launch Box really cant be compared to the Iolite when speaking of quality, usability, design and durability.
The Magic Flight Launch Box is stupidly designed (you have to pull the batteries out pretty quick, otherwise the herbs will go up in flames!) and doesnt do the job half as good as the Iolite.
Yeah, the MFLB is (a bit) cheaper, but that aint much and you definetly get a much better experience with the Iolite and then you dont have to worry about it breaking down after a short while.
Have you even tried both of them or are you just going for the cheapest item possible and not caring about the quality?
I would suggest ANY ONE who is looking for a portable vaporizer that does the job to get a Iolite - it can even be used _almost_ anywhere as it is so stealth (looks more like a phone/walkie-talkie then anything else) and you dont exhale smoke as normally.
Know your stuff before you yap away. :)

For portability and discretion, the iolite takes the cake.

Absolutely great for travel, leisure, work, whatever you want to use it for. I took the included pieces out of the travel case and keep the iolite inside while using it on the go for added discretion

One fillup of butane lasts about two hours, in my experience can be used for at least 40 minutes without refilling herb so basically one-handed operation after minimal (2-4 minutes for butane fill + herb grinding) preparation. That is why it is better than magicflight IMO. Putting a battery up to your mouth repeatedly is not dicreet. Haha.

My mouthpieces got snapped, i bought 3 feet of plastic tubing from the hardware store for $3 and now have disposable 4-6 inch hoses. Some people might say this is not the same quality of plastic that the iolite is made of, and they'd probably be right. But it works for me.

Definitely agree about the herb container needing a fastener - if anyone has a nice way to rig it up, post it!

Nice but only for those living under 2000 feet above sea level. I live in a city at 2800 feet elevation and I can click the igniter hundreds of times before it finally lites. Other than that It's probably the best portable out there once finally lit . If only I lived at sea level.
Oh, and you will inevitably pick it up with the mouthpiece pulling of the chamber and flinging all the contents everywhere, promise.

Seriously a fantastic little vaporizer. It does have a tiny smell but nothing that might raise someones suspicion really. I take it hiking all the time and just about anywhere else fun I go! Great investment and would highly recommend it!

I want to first start by saying that I have never used another vaporizer before so I cannot compare this product to anything else like it. But I can say that after purchasing and using this device for a couple weeks, I'm not going back to smoking. I've been vaping about once a day, every day since I received it and I am noticing that I am not burning through my herbs as fast and getting all the affects from them.

The construction seems very solid. One thing I will add is that this thing gets got. It gets hotter than I had expected from a lot of the reviews I had watched and read. I haven't burned myself but you don't want to touch up by the chamber after it's been running for several minutes. That and the hiss it makes are my only complaints and they are small enough that I am still giving this 5 stars. I have never written a review before but I liked this thing so much I felt I needed to add to the positive feedback on it.

Enjoy and keep on vaping.

This is my second vaporizor and it can't even be fairly compared to my first, forced-air Vapir One. The freedom and joy of portability cannot be overstated. I'm using around the house, outdoors...everywhere. Very compact, very discreet. I can't wait to use it at the beach this summer.

I haven't had ANY of the problems I've read in other reviews. The mouthpiece must have been redesigned (mine has the metal threads) since it hasn't broken. But I do treat my Iolite well; I don't put it in my pocket, I keep it clean and I keep it in the included case whenever I'm not using it. I haven't had any problem with starting, either. One click is all I've ever needed. (I'm using "Power" brand butane.) And one fill-up of butane lasts about a week of daily (but not constant) use.

I haven't seen anyone else comment on the included "condenser" which can be inserted into the mouthpiece. It helps if you're vaporizing moist herb since the hot water vapor can be a little hard on the throat. If your herb is dry, you can take it out. And if your herb is moist, you have to clean the chamber, screen and mouthpiece a little more often. But they give you tools for this and it's not very hard (or very time consuming).

Now that medical marijuana is available in 14 states, and vaporizing is so much easier on the mouth, throat and lungs than smoking, I'm sure that vaporizers will become more mainstream. And as they do, I'm sure the technology will just continue to get better and better. But in the meantime, I don't think you can beat this one.

I haven’t had any problem with starting, either. One click is all I’ve ever needed. (I’m using “Power” brand butane.) And one fill-up of butane lasts about a week of daily (but not constant) use.

I haven’t seen anyone else comment on the included “condenser” which can be inserted into the mouthpiece. It helps if you’re vaporizing moist herb since the hot water vapor can be a little hard on the throat. If your herb is dry, you can take it out. And if your herb is moist, you have to clean the chamber, screen and mouthpiece a little more often. But they give you tools for this and it’s not very hard (or very time consuming).

Now that medical marijuana is available in 14 states, and vaporizing is so much easier on the mouth, throat and lungs than smoking, I’m sure that vaporizers will become more mainstream. And as they do, I’m sure the technology will just continue to get better and better. But in the meantime, I don’t think you can beat this one.

Well. I love it! It creates a new feel to herb consumption, from preparing your herbs to actually hitting the unit is so different. I've had mine for a week now and find myself using it a lot.

As for it's durability, I give it an A. So far, I've dropped it off my kitchen island onto tile and a friend dropped it on pavement, it survived all those events without a scratch.

The butane fuel is abundant and cheap so people that see the fuel system as a problem shouldn't. I get a solid 2 hours of burn time with a fill up. My only wish is that they had a simple latch for the herb chamber. If you pass it to a friend who has never used it you will find they almost always want to hold onto the mouth stem, which in turn causes the herb chamber to release and the unit to fall, but this is my only gripe.

Mine almost always lights on the first try as well.

I strongly recommend this unit, you will not be disappointed.

I love it. Thank you for making such an ingenious invention. Made in Ireland. hmmm? It doesn't matter, it works really well. I have a volcano vaporizer and while this will never match it, I don't think I will use my volcano anymore as this is much more convenient. And you don't look like a pedophile walking around with a bag of smoke. ;) Also, you don't have to plug this in, which makes it very portable.

Cleaning is breeze as well. It doesn't get as hot so its much easier to clean. But you still get a perfect amount of vapor. I am very impressed.

As far as vaporizers go, I've seen none better for the combination of quality design and portability. The company has been making catalytic combustion butane products for various industries since the early 1980's, and they have the technology down. (Google Dehorner II)

The design is excellent. The octagonal herb chamber on the end of the stem slides snugly into the round heating chamber. When you draw through the herb chamber external air flows between the herb chamber and the heating chamber, preheating the air before it hits the herb for less cooling of the herb as you draw. Both screens are easily removed with a sweet little brass tool that came with my unit, and clean with a little soaking and swishing in Isopropyl (rubbing) alcohol (I just pour a bit of alcohol into the bottle cap.) According to the web site, the plastic is a high-tech grade designed for use at high temperatures in the food industry.

As a high-tech product, you need to know how to use it.

1. Use a premium quality butane fuel, not the standard butane you can buy at Walgreens. Mine came with Vector, and I've had no problems. The web site lists approved fuels. If you have problems starting, you are likely using an inferior fuel. Or your are living too high. (I mean, like above 7-8000 feet).
2. Keep it clean - carry it around in the zippered pouch it comes with, don't just stick it in your pocket.
3. Make sure your herb is dry. If your unit gunks up quickly, it is too moist and will also harsh your throat.
4. Iolite redesigned the stem. The original had plastic threads. Mine came with extra stems, and you can also buy replacement herb chamber / stem assemblies on their web site.
5. Know how vaporization works. When you heat vegetable material, the volatile organics evaporate, so you need to allow the herb to heat. This takes less than a minute after firing it up, when you hear combustion stop. It takes only a small draw to clear the chamber of vapor - more simply cools the chamber and stops vaporization. Allow the chamber and herb to re-heat between draws.

This is the most amazing vaporizer on the market today! I currently own the iolite, Volcano Vaporizer, a wooden VaporBox a glass and heat gun vaporizer and the iolite is far superior to all of these IMO. The Volcano is heavy, large, costly and difficult to transport. The wooden box vaporizer is unable to maintain accurate temperatures after 20 minutes, subsequently causing combustion that is unknown until exhalation. Also, the fragile glass whip requires frequent and time-consuming cleaning for effective operation, and must be transported and used with caution. Contrarily, the iolite is extremely transportable, easy to use, consistent, and allows for so much flexibility.

I clean the filter and metal chamber (with Epsom salt and rubbing alcohol in a zip-lock bag) once per week and it takes about 5-10 minutes. I was aware of the issues with the mouthpieces breaking so I ordered a 3-pack of mouth pieces just in case. I used some of these parts to extend the length of the mouth piece to about 8" and this has significantly enhanced my vaporizing experience as it is much cooler and does not irritate my lungs and it provides much smoother inhalation. Also, the temperature is preset so it doesn't allow for any combustion to occur or allow for any user errors. I would recommend this product to almost anyone (it requires minor weekly maintenance) as it has allowed me to have more freedom and it's so compact.

With that being said, I think a few slight modifications would make the iolite absolutely perfect and I'm being quite picky. These modifications include:

- The herb chamber needs to be easily secured to the iolite. The lack of a latch or other form of fastener has caused occasional messes and some waste of product.
-The mouth pieces still need to be improved as they remain somewhat fragile and easily breakable despite the updated metal threads
-The orange glow should be brighter or as it can be difficult to see at times if it the catalytic heater was activated or not when the iolite is first turned on
-A butane level indicator would be extremely convenient
-The retention ring could easily be lost and just seems to be a temporary fix for the new mesh screens
